Two-Wings Tuesday: Red-Tailed Hawks at Cornell Celebrate Fledge #4! (Copy)

For the past decade, a pair of red-tailed hawks have been the stars of a very special reality show located on the other side of Lake Ontario in Ithaca, New York.

In 2012, the pair made their nest above Cornell University’s athletic field. The nearby Cornell Ornithology Lab carefully installed a few cameras to observe the pair as they raise their young. Thankfully, they also decided to share the live feed with the rest of us! The rest is history!

Each year the pair has raised three chicks from three eggs, but this year they celebrated fledge #4 for 2022!

Watch as L4 finally takes flight!

Making a nest a home!

Just like some humans, red-tailed hawks are known to decorate their nests with conifer branches and foliage?

These raptors (birds that grab prey with their claws) are common throughout Canada and often return to the same nesting area year after year.

Eventhough the fledges have taken flight you still catch them on the live camas they learn the ropes of being a hawk. You can also enjoy highlights from this year — like the time a food fight sends one fledge flying off their 85-foot perch!
