Tree Love

September 18th-24th is National Forest Week

This is the perfect week to show off the tree-hugger in you, and it’s a great time to plant a tree, period.  The cooler temperatures and more rainfall that typically arrive in the fall offer the perfect conditions for trees to take root before they go dormant for the winter – meaning we may need to water a newly planted tree less often. You’ll also be planting Mother Nature’s secret weapon against climate change!  This decade, known as the “Twentrees”, has been identified by some of the smartest scientists on Earth as the last chance for us to act to save the planet.

Contact your local conservation authority, municipal parks and recreation, urban forestry department, or a local environmental group to learn more about residential tree programs.  Often, trees are free in exchange for your commitment to nurturing them to maturity. Private land owners are the key to growing community tree canopies. If planting isn’t your thing, you can donate to Trees For Life, we’re helping tree-planting groups across Canada do exactly that!
