Planting for Patients and Providers

In case you haven’t heard, Trees for Life is working with the healthcare sector to honour the many people who have dedicated themselves to our health and well-being.  The latest partner supporting the Trees for Heroes, Trees for Health initiative is Ethicon, a division of Johnson & Johnson MedTech.

The partnership was created because of our shared goal to create a happier, healthier Canada by planting native trees and shrubs where we live, work, and play. It will help bolster J & J’s commitment to creating a healthier world and sustainable future and realize its responsibility to help protect the communities in which we live and work.

The program gives back to hospitals, patients, the planet, and the local community by planting trees at health facilities or in nearby public spaces where trees have been dedicated to Healthcare Heroes.  It’s based on health facilities’ purchase of a special surgical product that also significantly reduces operating room waste and provides a better patient experience. Ethicon Megadyne™ Mega Soft™ Patient Return Electrodes are reusable and it’s estimated that one pad can eliminate 400lbs of operating room waste over its lifetime.

It’s a wonderful, full-circle moment, as planting trees increases the environmental impact of Mega Soft pads, and enhances green space at hospitals, contributing to faster, smoother recovery with fewer complications for patients and a peaceful space in which healthcare workers can de-stress and recharge.

Outside of the medical realm, enhancing public green spaces with more trees has proven to increase biodiversity, and physical and mental well-being, contributing to the overall health of communities.

It’s expected that this partnership will result in approximately 300 trees planted annually across Canada and we are thrilled to have Ethicon, Johnson & Johnson within the Trees for Life community.
