Planting at Almet Farms - Bowmanville, Ontario

Our crews use every efficiency to achieve tree-planting goals and take extra care to respect the environment in which we plant. As this photo shows, to maintain the integrity of this riparian area, trees were transferred from one forklift to another over the river.

In all, over 3,600 trees of 13 different species and over 450 shrubs of 6 different species were planted. This land is not suitable for growing farm crops but is well suited to naturalizing hillsides, floodplains, and other areas not accessible or efficient for farming equipment.

Research in the US has shown that 14% of native plants produce about 90% of the food for wildlife. Birch, Oak, and Elm are 3 tree species that fit into this high-productivity food supply category. These 3 species made up 1/3 of all trees planted at this site, and we included native shrubs to support broad habitat biodiversity for this site.

Thank you Almet Farms for providing your private land in Bowmanville, just north of Hwy #401 to plant these trees and shrubs!
