McMaster Carbon Sink Forest Initiative - West Hamilton, Ontario

Funding Gap: $5,000

The McMaster Carbon Sink Forest Initiative will develop a model forest where 1,000 native tree species will be planted to facilitate maximum carbon sink capabilities while also promoting and preserving biodiversity, sustainability, and conservation. A team of faculty and students will track the growth and health of each tree for years to come and share this data with other researchers working to grow carbon sink forests in Canada and worldwide.  Situated on a one-hectare plot donated by a McMaster alumnus, the Carbon Sink Forest is highly accessible and open to the public. Planting started in 2021 will continue into 2023. TFL is funding the planting of 900 trees in 2022.
